Werribee Polo Fields Update
16 Apr 2025
With the Victorian Polo season over, it has become increasingly evident that the existing operational model for the Werribee fields will not be viable in the long term.
While significant efforts have been made to sustain the fields, it is now crucial to explore alternative solutions to ensure that Werribee fields 2 and 3 can remain in use for the upcoming season. This is particularly important, as maintaining these public fields is a key asset for the Victorian Polo community. Feedback gathered from both the survey and field-side input from the players strongly supports the continuation of these fields as a central hub for the sport.
To achieve this goal, we are considering a collaborative approach that will involve a partnership between a club and/or commercial operator working alongside the Victorian Polo Association (VPA). This partnership will ensure that Werribee continues to serve as a central home for Victorian Polo, fostering growth and accessibility for the sport in the state.
While a levy may remain in place to support this model, the exact amount will be determined once a suitable model for the upcoming season is finalized.
We will be immediately opening Expressions of Interest (EOI) for commercial entites to take on fields two and 3. Ideally the VPA would like to see a polo school with the focus on increasing participation in the sport and the running of the club as a secondary focus.
It is important to note that Chirnside will not be included in this tender process and will remain under the direct management of the VPA.
